PLACONE DOROTHY Of Forest Hills, age 101, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 at Juniper Village. Beloved wife of the late Larry Placone for 50 years. Precious mother of Ronald (Ginger) Placone of Forest Hills and the late Dennis (surviving spouse, Martha of SC) Placone; treasured grandmother of Greg and Jesse (Amanda) Placone; Ron (fiancée, Katelyn) and Connie (fiancé, Andy) Placone; and special grandmother to Zoe Obenza-Bridges; proud great- grandmother of Kyla Placone; sister of Anthony (late Mary) Marchitello. Preceded in death by her siblings, Mary Siconol?, Carl "Himmer" Marchitello, Helen Marchitello, Sam Marchitello and Blanche Welsh; sister-in-law of Virginia and Clarence Worrall. Dorothy is also survived by nieces and nephews and she was very grateful for the weekly visits of her niece, Gen Payne. Dorothy was an original member of St. Maurice Parish, was a member of the St. Maurice Christian Mothers and, for many years, served as a kitchen volunteer for parish bingos and festivals. She was a member of both, the Ladies Auxiliary of the East Pittsburgh V.F.W., Post 5008 where she served for many years as a waitress, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Forest Hills Volunteer Fire Dept. One of her strongest family passions was preparing traditional holiday meals which featured her homemade raviolis. Beside baking and cooking, Dorothy also enjoyed bingo, shopping and slot machine playing. Friends are welcome on Sunday from 2-8 p.m., at PATRICK T. CONDRON ROBERT J. (LEESE) On December 4, 2018. Bob was born Jan. 23, 1931 to the late Elsie Randall Leese and Robert Leese. His father passed when Bob was three years old. Bob later became the much loved adopted son of Ira Condron, gaining a huge loving family in the Condron's, Lukeharts, and Andersons. His family grew even more under the loving care of the Senecals, Leon (Pup) and Ruth (Mom) Senecal; his sister, Betty (Pete) Pederson; brothers, Vance (Marion), Leon (Erva) and Gus (Pat) Senecal. Bob was preceded in death by his late wife, Dorothy Evans Condron. He will be sadly missed by his loving family; his wife, Tina; his children, Sally Hilton, Suzanne (Anthony) Zanoni, David (Diane) Condron, and Laura (Octavio) Flores; his grandchildren, Lauren Hilton, Isabella and Joseph Zanoni, Nathanael and Elise Condron, and Daniel and Monica Flores. Bob taught Math in the Fox Chapel Area Schools where he later became a school principal, the last being Fairview Elementary School. At different times he enjoyed coaching football and soccer and teaching students how to play chess in their free time. He was a pool manager at the Chapel Gate Swim Club and the manager of the Fox Chapel Racquet Club where he took up tennis, which he LOVED. He also loved his church, the Community United Methodist church of Aspinwall. He was a lay leader, a conference representative, a Sunday school teacher, and did anything else that was needed. It was a second home for him. Bob would help anyone who needed him and was known for his beautiful smile, which will be missed by many. Bob served in the Korean Con?ict as a forward observer in 1951.   He was a proud Marine. Visitation will be on Friday, December 7, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the THOMAS M. GOGGIN JAMES E . Age 81, Johnstown, died December 2, 2018 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born February 27, 1937 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, the son of James E. and Anna J. (Mergen) Goggin . He is preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary Orbin; Evelyn Lech; Genevieve Dunk; Anna C. Miske; and Claire Filling; and brothers, Charles, Edward, and William Goggin; and infant grandson, Charles Oliver Goggin. He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Jean (Kerestesy) Goggin, to whom he was a devoted husband for 57 years. He was the father of three beloved children who also survive him, David J. Goggin and his wife, Anne; Patrick M. Goggin and his wife, Kristy; and Susan A. Widlake and her husband, Patrick. He was always a caring Dad and a doting Pap to his two grandsons, Mark Goggin and Brady Widlake; and step-grandchildren, Samantha Thomas and Zachary Thomas, and Morgan Van Hoose. He is also survived by his sisters, Rose (David) Michaels, Germaine Lavella, Leona Fetsko, Margaret Zolnosky and Helene “Nikki” (Robert) Merritts; and brother-in-law, Paul F. Hammett. James graduated from Johnstown High School in 1957. After graduating, he served in the 103rd Armor Battalion of the Pennsylvania National Guard. James worked as a computer operator at the University of Pittsburgh before returning to his hometown and obtaining a position with the Bethlehem Steel Corporation. He worked for Bethlehem Steel in Information Services for nearly thirty years. Later he served as a driver for the American Red Cross and a security guard for DRS Laurel Technology. James was a hard-working, devoted family man, well-liked by friends, co-workers, and relatives alike. He enjoyed nothing better than being in the outdoors and was an avid hunter and ?sherman his entire life. He was a lifelong member of the National Ri?e Association and he belonged to the St. Clair Tremont Trap & Field Club. He was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. He will be deeply missed by the many people who knew and loved him, and by whose lives he touched in so many bene?cial ways.   A memorial service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family. Born May 25, 1927 in Pottsville, PA. She was the adopted daughter of Harry Young and Elizabeth (Cleveland) Young and the wife of late James E. Noschese. Norma earned a Bachelors Degree at Pennsylvania College for Women (now Chatham University), a Masters degree at Northwestern University and the Ph.D. degree at The University of Pittsburgh . She was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, Pittsburgh. On moving to Murrysville, she became a member of Mother of Sorrows Church. Her career was dedicated to teaching, to clinical work and to clinical research in audiology. She taught at PCW early in her career, then worked as an audiologist at the Pittsburgh Hearing and Deaf Services. In the time that followed, she worked at the Eye and Ear Hospital and School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh for 24 years. When she left, she held the rank of Clinical Associate Professor. Later she was in private practice of audiology with of?ces in the West Penn and Shadyside Hospitals until her retirement in 1984. Norma was an emeritus member of the American Association of University Professors, a life member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (Fellow), the Pennsylvania Speech, Language, Hearing Association and the Acoustical Society of America. She also belonged to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and Common Cause. Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Samuel E. Hopkinson; and a niece, Catherine Molony. Norma is survived by her brother, Dr. Charles L. Trozzo (Gail Rothrock) of Alexandria, VA; sister-in-law, Lois E. Brown; brother-in-law, Robert Hopkinson (Helen); one nephew-in-law, Walter Molony of   Villa Hills,   Kentucky; and two nephews, Paul Trozzo (Sandee) of McMurray and Charles Brown (Terri) of Elderton; and two   grandnieces, Rosaleen Molony of Villa Hills, Kentucky and Jennifer Reefer (Chris) of Elderton ; as well as two grandnephews, Chris Brown (Jenn) and Tim Brown (Kim) of Elderton; and several great-nieces and nephews. ZEKAS JOAN E . Of Pittsburgh, PA passed away on Dec. 2, 2018. She was the daughter of Nell and Peter Zekas of Forty Fort, PA. Joan is survived by her loving family: brother, Gerald Zekas (Arline); nieces, Cheryl Zekas; Godchild, Cynthia Sharp (Jason), Caryn Hendricksen (Bill); also great-nieces, Amber Lane, Aleena Lane (daughter, Rayna), Marissa Hendricksen; and great-nephew, Dylan Hendricksen. She was predeceased by her loving life companion of 35 years, Joseph Hogan, who was a nuclear engineer. Joan was born in Wilkes Barre, PA. She was the granddaughter of four Lithuanian immigrants. She was baptized in Holy Trinity Church in Wilkes Barre and attended Meade St. Grade School. Joan's family relocated to Forty Fort where graduated from Forty Fort HS. She treasured many friendships there. Joan & her college friends Mary McGinley Dixon, Margaret Reinerd O'Malley were the Three Musketeers of College Misericordia where she graduated with a degree in Child Welfare. She later graduated from St. Louis U with a Masters Degree in Social Work. Joan had a 31 year career as a social worker, ?rst with Catholic Social Services and then at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh where she worked in pediatrics and the burn unit.   Joan volunteered for various children's agencies: as a counselor with Jr. Catholic Daughters, at the Blind School for Children, CCD teacher, tutor at Beginning with Books program and at Toner Institute. She enjoyed writing, especially reminiscent and children's stories some of which were published in magazines and books. She was a long-term moderator of the Scribes in Pittsburgh and she cherished the many friendships with her co-writers.   The funeral will be held on Monday at 10:00 a.m. from the HUGH B. HUGHES & SON, INC. FUNERAL HOME, 1044 Wyoming Avenue, Forty Fort, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Saint Ignatius of Loyola Church, Kingston. BERRY CLIFFORD J. "SLIM" Age 73, of Clairton, Pennsylvania, departed this life on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 in Southwestern Healthcare Center. He was born on May 12, 1945 in Jacksonville, Florida, son of Mary Lee Hudson Berry of Clairton and the late J.C. Berry; he was preceded in death by his daughter, Gaynell Greathouse; and his brothers, Anthony Berry and Frederick Berry. Clifford was a member of Mt. Olive First Baptist Church. Clifford was an accomplished boxer; he represented the Cherry Reds Boxing Gym of Clairton as a Golden Glove Boxer and was also a former boxer and trainer for the PAL Police Association Athletic League. Clifford was active in the Clairton community. He served as a former president of the Clairton Midget Football Association, where he also coached and volunteered as a member of the Clairton Democratic Committee. He was also a member of both the Booker T. Washington Lodge #218 I.B.P.O.E. of W, and the St. Joseph's Lodge #9 F&AM. Clifford worked as a Warehouse Supervisor for Resorts International Resort and Casinos. Left to cherish his memories are his mother, Mary Lee Hudson Berry of Clairton; devoted companion, LuAnn Greene of Clairton; children, Holly L. Stokes, Reeshá C. Holly, Kimberly Schley, Shannon M. Greene, Ryan M. (Bridget) Norris, Kevin B. Schley, Brea'na Berry all of Clairton; twenty-six grandchildren; ten great- grandchildren; brothers, George B. LYNCH GARY C. Of North Versailles, son of the late Joseph and Virginia (Beatty) Lynch; and brother of Jennifer Lynch (Bill) Presutti, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at Providence Point Health Care Center, Scott Twp., due to complications of Multiple Sclerosis. He was 64 years old. Gary was a 1972 graduate of East Allegheny High school and an alumnus of Penn state University. He served as a substitute teacher in the Penn Trafford School District after working for several years at Westinghouse Airbrake in Wilmerding. He is the uncle of Bill (Jennifer) Presutti, Cindy (Bryan) Cipoletti and Darin (Jennifer) Presutti; and the great-uncle of Jacob, Justin, Tyler, Cara, Sylvia and Josephine. Dedicated lifetime friend of Tony, Wayne, Dave, Dominic, Don, Bob and Liz, sharing great times hunting, ?shing and just hanging out. Special neighbors, who were of invaluable help to Gary, are Bob and Geonette Novak. Thanks to the wonderful and dedicated staff at Providence Point and Three Rivers Hospice for the excellent care provided to Gary. Gary's courage in dealing with his illness over a 25-year period was an inspiration to family and friends alike. Friends are welcome on Sunday from 2-6 p.m., at PATRICK T. POLLASTRINI LAWRENCE JOHN, Sr. Passed on December 4, 2018. Larry was born on September 6, 1930 in Pittsburgh to Alfredo and Ida, both immigrants from Italy. He was a graduate of St. Justin's High School and served in the Army during the Korean War. He was married for 57 years to his beloved wife, Gerry (Geraldine Melucci), who passed away in 2013. He was very proud of raising three wonderful sons with her. Larry enjoyed archiving his family photos and history, and then sharing them with others. He was a passionate fan of all the Pittsburgh sports teams. He enjoyed tending his garden and sharing his crops. Larry faithfully attended St. Pamphilus Church in Beechview, where he acted as an usher. He volunteered at Mercy Hospital for several years. He went twice weekly to work out at his gym up until this past spring. Larry is survived by his sons, Fred (Donna), Dan, Larry (Bryan); his sister, Pamela Krauss (Ken); his sister-in-law, Therese Melucci (Sister of St. Joseph); his niece, Melissa Krauss; his nephews, Art Tintori (Terri), Anthony Paterra (Jan), Tad Paterra (April), Bob Paterra (Denise), David Paterra (Lisa), Mid Paterra (Maria); and all of his dear, good neighbors from Gladys Avenue; Larry was preceded in death by his sister, Elda Junker (Tintori). Friends and family received 1-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday only at BRUSCO-NAPIER FUNERAL SERVICE, LTD. , 2201 Bensonia Ave., Pgh., PA 15216. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Pamphilus Church on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies is private. KRAVITZ HERBERT "HERBIE" Age 76, resident of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away on Wednesday, December 5, 2018. Born May 28, 1942 in Brooklyn, NY. Preceded in death by parents, Ruth and Edward Kravitz of New York. Mr. Kravitz is survived by children, Howard Kravitz of Gilbert, AZ and Marni Kravitz of Washington, DC; sister, Ceil Rich; dear friend, Sun Choi; nephew, Kevin Rich; and nephew and niece, Larry and Betty Rich, and their children, Andrew and Ellie Rich, all from Pittsburgh, PA. Mr. Kravitz was a loyal member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW, Local Union No. 3). He loved ?shing and sports and was a lifetime fan of the NY Yankees. DZURIAK JOHN ALLAN Age 45 of Monroeville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 2, 2018. Beloved husband of Lynn M. (Pachasa) Dzuriak; loving son of Karen Lee Kelly and the late Allan Dzuriak; stepfather of Natalie Martinchich; brother of Molly Kelly, Katie Kelly, Lisa Dzuriak Herms, and Allan Dzuriak; grandson of Margaret and late John Belajac. John, along with his mother, were the owners of the Ballrumors Dance Studio in Monroeville for many years. He was a talented actor, dancer, and performer that loved to entertain people.
