KAREN (MILLER) RAY A devoted wife and wonderful mother, sister and friend, was welcomed into heaven by her parents, Albert and Joan Miller on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 from UPMC Shadyside after a valiant battle with cancer. Karen, 46, was born in Sewickley on October 29, 1972. She married the love of her life, Mark Ray, on May 30, 2003. She is survived by her cherished husband of 16 years, Mark Ray; their two devoted daughters, Samantha Joan and Sydney Michele Ray; her brother and sister-in-law, Al and Heidi Miller; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Christine and Joseph Ray all of Robinson; brother-in-law, Joseph and Carrie Ray; sister-in-law, Korey and Aaron Clegg; her best friend, Janice Zvaleny; and her Bassett/Lab mix, Cooper; numerous nieces, nephews and many good friends. Karen was a lifelong resident of Moon Township and a member of St. Margaret Mary Church. She was a 1991 graduate of Moon Area High School, a 1995 graduate of Kent State University with Bachelor's in Accounting and obtained her CPA while working for UPMC. She was a member of various professional accounting organizations. Karen was an avid reader, a Stephen King fan and was known to read a book in one evening. She was brilliant, taking her SAT's in 7th grade. She also was an animal lover. Her most important job was her devotion to her daughters. They were her life. She supported them in gymnastics, theater, dance and softball to mention a few. Visitation Saturday, 6-8 and Sunday, 2-4, 6-8 at COPELAND'S MOON TOWNSHIP, 981 Brodhead Rd., where prayers will be recited on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at St. Margaret Mary Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. FRANK BONURA Of Moon Twp., age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Son of the late Dominic and Armeda (Fontana) Bonura; devoted husband of 51 years to Barbara; loving father to Frank (Missy) Bonura, Shannon Bonura-Yanek, and Dominic Bonura; proud grandfather to Gina, Frankie, Cassidy, Alexa, Carly and Cael; brother of Daniel (Kerry) Bonura and Rosemary (John Nelson) Hauser; he's also survived by many wonderful neices, nephews, godchildren and cousins. Frank served in the US Navy from 1957 to 1960. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cooking, gardening and above all, he loved being a grandparent. Frank will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. ROBERT IRVING FURST Born July 18, 1926, in Brooklyn, NY, Robert “Bob” Furst of Providence Point, Scott Township, PA, passed away on Wednesday, October 16, 2019. Bob was the son of the late Abraham and Sarah Furst; brother of Milton (Renee) Furst, the late Rafael Furst, and the brother-in-law of Abraham Ogman, the late Gertrude Ogman, the late Arlene Furst, and the late Herbert Fishman. He leaves Selma, his devoted wife of 67 years; two loving sons, Steven (Elizabeth) Furst, and Dr. Eric (Ann) Furst; and an adoring daughter, Nancy Furst. He also leaves two beautiful and loving granddaughters, Dr. Julie Furst and Dr. Nicole Furst, and several nieces, nephews, and dear friends. A devotee of theater, Bob performed locally in Community Theater and local commercials. Bob and Selma regularly attended theater and concerts, and traveled extensively, visiting Europe, Israel, China, Japan, Hawaii, Tahiti, and cruising the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Bob graduated from City College of New York with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and subsequently became a licensed Professional Engineer registered in New York State. He was employed by General Electric for 30 years, followed by Black & Veatch Engineers and Constructors for 14 years until retirement in 1996. Burial will be private, but friends will be welcome at the Furst apartment at Providence Point from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21st. KATHARINE (LOCKHART) GRISWOLD Of Rector, PA died peacefully at her home in Easton, MD surrounded by her husband and children at dusk on October 15th. Katharine, known to her family and friends a Katie, was born October 19, 1946 to the late George Dilworth Lockhart and Katharine Frazer Lockhart of Shadyside. She attended Ellis School, Masters School of Dobbs Ferry, New York and Mt. Vernon Junior College where she studied Chemistry. Throughout her life Katie volunteered and contributed to community organizations impacting the lives of those around her. While living in Pittsburgh she enjoyed supporting the Center for the Arts School, Children's Institute of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Ballet and Seeders and Weeders Garden Club. After moving to the Eastern Shore of Maryland, Katie became actively involved in organizations such as The Talbot County Historical Society, Academy Art Museum, Talbot Hospice, The Talbot County Garden Club and The Country School Parents' Association. Gardening was a passionate love of Katie's, culminating with her Easton home being featured on the Maryland Garden Tour and being archived by the Smithsonian Institute. Having grown as a ballet dancer Katie was a lifelong supporter of performing arts and was an avid collector of both still life and plein-aire paintings. Katie is survived by her husband, G. Dwight Moore; daughter, Katharine Wainwright; son, Harris E. Wainwright, III; daughter, Emily Reed Griswold Larkin; and grandsons, Reed Alan Larkin and Rowan James Larkin. She was predeceased in death by brother, John Frazer Lockhart and Pauline Lockhart Palumbo. Funeral services will take place Tuesda,y October 22 at 11:00 a.m. at Shadyside Presbyterian Church followed by a private family burial. A reception will follow at the Pittsburgh Golf Club. KAREN (BATISTA) RUTTER Karen (Batista) Rutter, a wonderful doting grandma, 68, a life-long resident of Neville Island, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, October 17, 2019 at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on September 22, 1951 to Guido Batista and the late Mabel (Clawson) Batista. Karen married the love of her life, Richard E. Rutter on her birthday, September 22, 1990. In addition to her father and husband, she is the beloved mother of Alison (Doug) Upton and the late Stacy L. Janeda; the devoted grandmother of Justin, Kaylee, MacKenzie Janeda, Maeve Upton, and the late Neil Janeda; cherished sister of Ken Batista, Patrice Russell, Donald Batista and Jan Harper; aunt to numerous nieces and nephews. Karen was a member of St. Joseph church and retired in July of 2017 from PNC Bank at the Pittsburgh Corporate Center in Government Compliance. Karen's whole world was centered around giving and caring for others. She adored raising her grandchildren and took loving care of her Dad. Her hobby was tending to her flower garden. PHYLLIS A. SCHELL Age 92, formerly of Harmony Twp., and a resident of Masonic Village, passed away Oct. 16, 2019, at the Masonic Village Sewickley. Phyllis was born in Pittsburgh, Nov. 13, 1926, to the late Eila Erwin and John Altvater. She was the wife of the late James K. Schell who passed away in 1981. Phyllis along with her late husband James were Co-Owners of the Ohio Valley Lumber Co. in Ambridge. A member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church, she was a volunteer for 40 years at the Christy House Gift Shop. A zest for life, she spent time with friends playing bridge in a club for over 50 plus years, extensive traveling, also her flower garden, interior decorating, a member of the Sewickley Music Club, golfing at the Sewickley Heights Golf Club, also making Holidays special for her family with special gifts for them. She is survived by her sons, William R. (Alisa) Schell and James F. NANCY ELLEN McDADE-NOVAK Age 73, of Blawnox passed away peacefully on October 17, 2019 surrounded by family and her beloved dog, Max. Born in Verona, PA on January 24, 1946 to the late Malcolm and Jane (Hotchkiss) McDade. She worked for 20 years at Montemurro's Restaurant, Sharpsburg, then Lake Regional Medical Center, O'Hara Twp. until going back to school in her late 50's to earn a degree as a Pharmacy Technician. She then worked for McKesson and Walgreens Pharmacy in Carnegie before being forced to retire with a diagnosis of Amyloidosis in 2015. She is cherished in memory by her sister, Maureen (McDade) McClellan; her husband of 53 years, John E. Novak; her two stepsons, John E. Novak, Jr. and David J. (Cathy) Novak; her daughter, Kelly (McDade) MacKay; her four grandchildren, Matthew J. MacKay, Christina M. MacKay, Kyle B. Novak, Travis M. Novak; one great-granddaughter, Chloe L. LOTTIE B. ASH Evans, GA - Lottie passed away on October 18, 2019 at Brandon Wilde in Evans, GA after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Ash, Sr. and eldest daughter, Janie Ash Weidman (Lee). She was the beautiful and loving mother of Gerri Ash Seif (Dick) and James R. Ash, Jr. (Nancy). She is survived by her three grandsons, James W. (Debi), Gregory, and Ryan (Amber) Ash, and four great-grandchildren, Dylan, Cara, Sadie, and Ryker, who all affectionately called her "Granny Bones". She will fondly be remembered by her special nephew, Bill Best, and her soulmate, Jennifer Seif. Lottie was a graceful ballroom dancer and avid reader, she especially enjoyed the beach and traveling in the US, UK, and Europe with her children. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Colman's in Turtle Creek, PA and St. Mary on the Hill in Augusta, GA. A private family service and burial is planned. A mass to celebrate her wonderful and full life as the best mother in the world is being scheduled at St. Mary's. The family wishes to thank Bob Barnett of St. Mary's, who faithfully administered communion and prayers to her when she could no longer attend mass, and all of her care givers at The Claiborne at West Lake and Brandon Wilde for their love and care. Toni worked at for years at Liberty Baking Co., Woolworths in Eastland Shopping Center, and Shop & Save Deli in Forest Hills. She was known by many as a caring soul, who was always willing to help those in need. Toni enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and baking, and was most notably known for her homemade nutrolls. She cared dearly for her family and their pets. Toni was known, loved and will be missed by many at home and in the workplace. Friends welcome Tuesday from 2-7 p.m. at PATRICK T.
