REITER CLARA THIESSEN Age 85, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 3, 2018. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, James E. Reiter; daughters, Constance Reiter-Kreps (Douglas) and Nancy Wise (Dr. Bart Wise) of Lexington MA; and four grandchildren, Duncan and Abby Kreps and Tucker and Tessa Wise. She is also survived by two sisters, Julia Celebiler (Dr. Mehmet Celebiler) of Istanbul and Lucy Rawson (Dr. Ian Rawson); and many loving nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Gilbert and Lucile Laun Thiessen; and her sister Dr. Doris T. Penman of Los Angeles. Clara graduated from Penn State University and earned a Masters Degree in Biochemistry from the University of Pittsburgh. She owned, with her husband, and operated the Three Rivers Academy, an alternative high school in Pittsburgh. She worked in biochemistry laboratories at Pitt / UPMC for 15 years until her retirement. As a scientist and educator she was a woman ahead of her time who influenced many young people. Friends will be received at JOHN A. LUKETIC ANN M. Age 93, of Port Vue, passed away on Sunday, February 4, 2018, in Riverside Care Center, McKeesport. Born September 19, 1924, in McKeesport, she was a daughter of the late John and Ann (Pavlicic) Kolic. A retired dietary department worker at UPMC McKeesport, Ann was a member of the former Sacred Heart Parish, the CFU Lodge #3, Club Dobrotvor, the Mon Yough Friendship Club, Port Vue Seniors, the Versailles AARP, and the Teamsters Union #205. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Luketic, who passed away November 24, 1999; her daughter, Judy Luketic; and her siblings, Caroline Medved and Ivan and George Kolic. Ann is survived by her son, Robert J. Luketic of Port Vue; her sister, Mildred Matta of Port Vue; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the DANIEL F. BELL SAMUEL R. “SAMMY” Age 61, of Brookline, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on Saturday, February 3, 2018. Beloved husband of Laura (Horner) Bell; loving brother of Valerie (Late Jimmy) Johnston and his twin sister Sandy (Ray) Netzel; son of the late Samuel and Dorothy Bell. Sammy was a great brother-in-law and will be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Especially his cat “Freedom.” Sammy was employed by the wonderful family of Mercy Surgical Dressing Group. He was an avid sports fan with a love for music, gardening, and fishing. KNAPP EUGENE D. “DENNY” Age 82, of Ocoee, Florida, formerly of Marwood, PA, passed away in Ocoee on February 1, 2018. Born November 13, 1935 in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Eugene A. Knapp and Amelia A. (Miller) Knapp. He retired as a PBX technician from North Pittsburgh Telephone Company in Gibsonia and worked at Penn Telecom after his retirement. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1957. Surviving are his three children, Bruce D. Knapp (Darlene) of Winter Garden, FL, Jean M. Walker of Orlando, FL and David D. Knapp (Kathy Massa) of Thornton, CO; brothers, Brian D. Knapp of Renfrew and Regis D. Knapp of Alto, GA; sister, Janice A. Knapp of Saxonburg; nine grandchildren, Matthew Knapp, Kathleen "Katie" Wilson (Dalton), Jonathan (JD) Knapp, Logan Knapp, Matthew Walker (Kassie), Tyler Walker, Patrick Walker, Megan Massa and Lauren Massa; and four great-grandchildren Audrey Walker, Claire Walker, Jaxon Wolf and Mia Wolf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Audrey J. BURK ROSEMARY VAJS Of Oakmont, passed on Saturday, February 3, at the age of 98. Rosemary is survived by her son, Kenneth Jr. (Gary); and her daughter, Susan Keay ("Dempsey"). Grandmother to Erin Lawrence (Al) and Benjamin Keay (Diana); and great-grandmother to William Robert and Alexander Patrick. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth Sr., in 2004; and a son, Robert (Paula), in 2013. Rosemary was born in Petersburg, VA, but relocated to Pittsburgh with five sisters and two brothers, in the early 1920s. She graduated from Duquesne High School and entered the work world. She married her husband in 1941. The couple lived in Brooklyn, NY, where Rosemary worked for the Army Corps of Engineers on Wall Street. Upon reassignment, they spent two years in Miami Beach, FL, before returning to Pittsburgh and starting the family. Rosemary's greatest joys were family and her passions for gardening and fishing. Both pursuits speak to her boundless optimism and spirit. Rosemary's energy, generosity, and love will be missed. ESHLEMAN ELEANOR “ELLIE” (SMITH) Age 89, of Upper St. Clair, died peacefully at her home on February 3, 2018, surrounded by her beloved family. She was born on April 12, 1928, in Plainfield, NJ, the daughter of the late William Cooper and Edna (Layton) Smith. Ellie graduated from New Jersey State Teachers College at Trenton (now The College of New Jersey) with a BA in Education. She began her career teaching elementary students and was a truly dedicated professional. In December of 1951, she married J. Richard Eshleman and soon after, moved to Anchorage, AK, where her husband was stationed. She frequently told stories of her teaching days at Talkeetna Elementary School, including experiencing recess time with 40 children, 80 mittens, 80 boots, and freezing temperatures. She and her husband were married for 48 years before his death at age 69. Ellie is survived by Susan of Littleton, CO, James (Sue) of Lutherville, MD., and Katherine of Upper St. Clair; grandmother of Max (Kalyn), Elizabeth, Lisa, and Amy; dog-loving grandmother of Riley, Millie, and Molly; sister of the late William (Kathryn) Smith; sister-in-law of Barbara (Russ) Vroom; aunt to Nancy, the late Susan and William Smith. Ellie was a loyal, dedicated, and hardworking wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher. For as much as she and her husband enjoyed wonderful trips to Europe, she also loved her time in Pittsburgh, and in later years, her home at Friendship Village. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church where she volunteered a significant amount of time and energy to various committees. While her children were active in scouting, she also participated as a leader for many of their groups. Ellie served on the Board of Directors and volunteered for both Prime Time and SHIM. The family would like to express appreciation to all who supported Ellie through the years, especially as her vision diminished, and in most recent times, during her medical challenges. There will be a service celebrating Ellie's life at a later date. Ralph was formerly employed by U.S. Steel, U.S. Postal Service, Duquesne University, several apartment management companies, and various flower shops. A memorial service is being planned.
